Introduction of Updated Iron Status Log
UPDATE
Following consultation with the AMS Nutrition and Medical Working Groups, as well as a NIN pilot, the Iron Deficiency History Log has been reviewed and updated.
The purpose of this work is to:
- Improve workflow between the Blood Results form and this log
- Enhance communication of iron results, interventions, and management
- Support collaboration between Doctors and Dietitians
All development has been completed within the current technical constraints of the AMS platform (e.g., no direct integration with external pathology providers).

- Data is automatically pulled from the Blood Results form

- Summary table of previous entries including:
- Interventions

- Repeat blood test dates
- Data is sourced from previous Iron Status Log entries
Iron Management Section
A dedicated space where:
- Doctors can document:
- Recommended interventions
- Management plan details
- Timeline for repeat blood tests
- Dietitians can document:
- Dietary interventions
- Supplement plans
- Compliance
- Post-consultation comments
DATA ENTRY WORKFLOW
Step 1: Enter Blood Results
As AMS does not currently support direct pathology integration, blood data must be entered manually.
This can be done via:
The Blood Results form
The Iron Status Log (via the grey “Update Fields in Blood Results” tab)
The Link Records section in the Nutrition Record form
Step 2: Create a New Iron Status Entry
The Iron Status Log is designed to support ongoing holistic tracking, rather than “episodic” entries.
- A new entry should be created for each athlete consultation
All historical blood results and management notes remain visible
Benefits of the New Approach
Centralising data (blood results, interventions, and consultation notes) enables improved reporting and analysis, including:
- Most commonly used interventions
- Timeframes between interventions and changes in blood results
- Contextual insights from practitioner comments (e.g. athlete responsiveness)
WHAT HAPPENS NEXT
- Changes will be made to the Iron Deficiency History Log in the background during the week of Monday 29th June. This form can still be used by practitioners and won't be affected by the updates.
- The renamed Iron Status Log form and its changes will go live from Monday 6 July.

- Review the updated form
- Align on workflows for:
- Entering blood results
- Recording iron-related consultations
This will help maximise the benefit of the new system and ensure consistent data capture across teams.
